An effective guide to snare drum technique

In the family of percussion instruments snare drum is a most vital one. The beginners in the percussion art consider snare drum as a good start. It provides a beautiful foundation for them. But it is not as easy as what ordinary people think it is. It needs some skill to play it. For a beginner to buy a snare drum, a metal shell with a 5 x 14 snare drums are good.

A technique to play the snare drum is the snare technique. There are mainly two categories of grips used in the snare technique. They are traditional grip and matched grip. In traditional grip one hand uses an underhand grip and the other hand uses an over hand grip. While in matched grip both the hands will hold the stick in an overhand grip. The most exclusively used snare technique in snare drum is traditional grip.

There are different methods to learn the basic snare drums technique. Create a stable platform by spreading the base of the stand in a distance. To the stand base insert the top and by avoiding contact with the strainer keep the drum into the basket. Place the drum in your comfortable position by keeping it in your waist level slightly twisted. Appropriately tighten all the nuts in the stand wing.

After having been done all the above mentioned instruction now tune the drum to produce the best sound. Holding the stick properly is another factor for improving the technique. For better results stand in a relaxed position by keeps your legs in a comfortable distance apart and arms resting on your side. Place the snare drums in your waist level for comfortable playing. Keep your hands in the playing position by keeping the stick at the center of the drum head. Your body should be maintained relaxed.
